Hello! And welcome to Finjal 🙂
EAST AFRICAN ROAST
While East Africans have pioneered coffee roasting in general we see a large amount of people to this day choosing dark roast. Considering the fact that in our experience most people from the Horn drink around 5 or more finjals of coffee each day it is no surprise that most favor a darker roast for less caffeine. On top of that the ceremonial aspect is as strong as ever so choosing to inhale the aromas and spending time with each other is a part of the roasting experience. So it’s no surprise that the roast takes longer.
While larger Swedish roasters have had a tradition of roasting darker for the new generation of roasters that Finjal is a part of have specialized in roasting lighter. This has spread across the world as people are looking for more ways to bring out the flavour profiles of the coffee of their choosing. While larger Swedish roasters have had a tradition of roasting darker for the new generation of roasters that Finjal is a part of have specialized in roasting lighter.
And that brings us to Finjal fusion. So what is fusion?
As a family with background in both cultures it was a no brainer to see that we would merge both incredible ways of enjoying the elixir of life. Our mission in Finjal is not only to serve you great coffee but also giving back. The entire line of sourcing to roasting is made up of different family co-ops spanning Northern Europe and East Africa.
When we talk about fusion we are not only talking about the fusion of two different cultures. We are also talking about fusion of ideas of making the past and the future merge to meet us in the present. Modernity and tradition. Flavours of life that shouldn’t work together but do.
By mixing roasting techniques developed in Scandinavia over the past decade with the historical superstition and taking that one step further with a range of spices (and oils stayed tuned… 👀) we hope to bring you into our family!
